Background and Purpose

Coventry’s Image Working Group was launched in October 1997 by the city’s new events and tourism agency, Coventry and Warwickshire Promotions.

The aim was to draw together major players in the city – the City Council, the two universities, the Chamber and business – with a major stake in raising the profile and improving the image of Coventry.

The idea was to exchange information among group members and work on projects to address the city’s poor image.

Meetings were to be monthly and the group was also to act as a sounding board for the activities of CWP, one of the predecessor companies of CV One.

Since then, group membership has widened and in early 2007 the Image Working Group took on board new terms of reference:

  • It should play a central role in developing a vision for Coventry, covering the next 20 years.
  • It should be the sounding board for city image initiatives of all kinds and act as a think-tank for developing new ideas.
  • It should be a key supporter of the Growth Agenda for Coventry.
  • It should remain a key information exchange for its members.
